Please describe the project specifications

The Sanborn Elementary shade structure covers approximately 3,674 square feet and consists of 22 steel columns and 35 horizontal beams. The design was initiated by the architect, who approached us with a conceptual idea that required several iterations before becoming feasible. Located in a student gathering area, the structure was strategically placed to provide functional shade throughout the day during the school year. While the layout was architect-driven, our team refined the technical aspects to ensure durability, tensioning accuracy, and architectural integrity.

This was our first completed “cable grid” style structure—an idea that had been discussed internally for over a decade. The complexity of realizing such a system involved focused coordination between design vision and engineering practicality. Every connection point and beam had to be meticulously planned to support the suspended sails with elegance and strength. Beyond the technical execution, the uniqueness of the cable grid configuration and its clean, modern lines mark it as one of our most distinctive and rewarding builds to date.
