Please describe the project specifications
This custom shade structure was designed for a private casita nestled high on a mountain. It features three structural columns and ten beams forming a low-profile framed design, covering approximately 347 square feet with a finished height of 8'-2". Due to the home’s premium finishes and limited access for equipment, the layout and installation had to be carefully planned. The goal was to filter sunlight into the casita without blocking the view or clashing with the architectural style. By tucking the structure close to the wall and minimizing gaps, we created a comfortable shaded area that blends beautifully with the home’s modern look—making the casita more usable for everyday living.
This project stands out for its setting and subtlety. Built on a mountaintop with no equipment access and limited footing locations, every part had to be done by hand with careful attention to detail. The homeowner wanted shade that worked with—not against—the home’s clean lines. Our favorite part? Seeing the homeowner’s reaction when it was done. His excitement and appreciation reminded us why we love doing this kind of work. It wasn’t the biggest or flashiest project, but the way it quietly elevated the space makes it unforgettable.
