Project Description:
For a private estate wedding hosting 450 guests, the client requested a large sailcloth tent overlooking a custom-designed pond. A key objective was to allow guests to walk right to the water’s edge during cocktail hour, requiring the tent to be positioned unusually close to the pond.
To preserve an unobstructed view and avoid any guy ropes on the tent’s front side—particularly in front of the porch area used for cocktails—we engineered and installed a 3' x 6' x 91' concrete foundation along the pond's edge. Into this foundation, we embedded nine 16-foot steel columns to securely anchor the front of the tent. Due to the elevation of the flooring system, the columns had to be installed before the floor, which was then precisely engineered to align with the height and placement of the columns.
The client also requested a custom-built front porch that extended along the curved perimeter of the pond, including a matching curved plexiglass guardrail to ensure guest safety while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
Maintaining a low floor profile was another critical requirement. To accommodate HVAC needs without raising the floor height, we excavated and installed underground trenches to house air conditioning ductwork prior to floor construction.
Logistically, the client required all delivery trucks to be staged at a remote lot 8 miles away, with equipment shuttled to the site one vehicle at a time to reduce traffic impact on a private road. In addition, a custom valance and a bespoke striped tent fabric were specified to meet the client’s unique visual preferences.
The final installation included multiple tents strategically placed around the estate to support the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and back-of-house operations—each tailored to match the sophistication and vision of the main tent structure.
