Please describe the project specifications

This project consists of two patio canopies for the Three Broomsticks Restaurant at the new Universal Studios Harry Potter attraction in Hollywood, California. The first canopy has a dimension of 40' Projection by 56' Wide; with the second canopy at 24' Projection by 40' Wide. Both units have 7'-11" Clearance Height, with canopy peaks ranging from 13' to 19' High. The covers are made of two-layers; the top is Starfire Awning & Banner Fabric, while Dazian PD Cloth Fabric is used for the lining underneath. Each canopy is engineered for 110 MPH Exposure "C" Wind-Loads, and Seismic Design Category "D".

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The Nassal Company approached Eide to work with Universal Creative to design the outdoor patio canopies for the new Three Broomsticks Restaurant at Universal Studios Hollywood.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Eide designed the patio covers with mounting brackets for heaters, light fixtures and ceiling fans; along with two-layers of fabric (Starfire Awning for the top, and Dazian for the lining underneath). Approximately 808' of two-sided valance colors were digitally applied by Eide; while Universal Creative artistically enhanced the new textile fabric top and lining with a faux graphics to appear old and complement the restaurant's theme.

What were the results of the project?

Working with the local union, Eide successfully completed the fabrication and installation of the patio canopies in time for the grand opening of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter Attraction.
