Please describe the project specifications

This project consists of five (5) Eucalyptus Tension Structure Modules with approximate dimensions of 20' x 20' each for a total shade coverage area of 1,500 square feet. To create the cover, double-layer fabric was vacuumed and sealed together. White Serge Ferrari Precontraint 1002-T2 was used on the top, and colorful Verde Claro, Rojo, Azul and Madarina VIP-FR Fabric by Sauleda on the bottom. Each canopy is engineered for 43 PSF Snow-Loads, 115 MPH Exposure "B" Wind-Loads, and Seismic Design Category "B".

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Eide assisted with the design-build of a long-term solution, using rich and vibrant fabric colors, for the remodel and expansion project of the Success Academy South Bend (SASB) Charter School.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Panzica approached Eide after discovering the Eucalyptus Structures produced by Tension Structures. Figuring out how to produce the right colors to match their facade tiles and provide a 15-year fabric warranty was the tricky part. To attain the fabric warranty requirements, Eide designed a durable dual-layer PVC solution. The final result was to vacuum seal and weld together flame-retardant Serge Ferrari Precontraint 1002 T2 fabric, as the top layer, to the colorful bottom layers of VIP-FR Fabric by Sauleda.

What were the results of the project?

The project was completed on schedule just in time for the 2015-2016 school year. We hope the children of Success Academy find inspiration as well as shelter under the Eide Tension Structures while they learn, grow and create long lasting childhood memories.
