Please describe the project specifications
Laser cut 7 arched fabric panels to match client supplied artwork that were attached to decorative hanging structures over the seating area. There are four arched bridge truss panels, 26' wide x 5' 0-3/8"tall and three 22' 4-1/8" wide x 11' 9-13/16" tall fabricated with Tresco Brass Sunbrella fabric. Pole pockets were sewn to the top and bottom to allow 1.25" aluminum tubing with snap button connections to be inserted. On the 3 arches the tubes had nutserts and eye bolts for attachment to structure while the ends of the tubes sleeved onto 1/4" base plates. Binding was added on all outside perimeter edges (Toast 503091). Brass grommets were placed every 6" on top and sides of the 4 truss panels to allow attachment to existing structure.
What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
This particular opera theater production was a fundraising event that was designed with a Paris/ Eiffel tower theme. The client requested the production setting to resemble the look and feel of being in Paris by the Eiffel tower. We laser cut the fabric to fit the existing structure that mimicked the Eiffel Tower’s wrought iron lattice design.
What is unique or complex about the project?
The way the trussing in the Eiffel tower is actually made the fabric wouldn’t hold its shape and was falling over. We had to perform several tests after adjusting the art file to get the final configuration.
What were the results of the project?
The production was a huge success and the client was very pleased with how closely the hanging trusses resembled the Eiffel Tower. The added lighting on the fabric panels during the evening performances created a sparkling and magical experience.
