Please describe the project specifications

A wide range of clients have purchased Quick-Stairs to improve safety and access needs for employees and individuals that needed to access ponds, tanks and trenches. Geomembrane can be very slippery when wet, frozen, or has frosted, snow or morning dew on the surface. Falls are common, we are for the first time, introducing a stairway that can be quickly assembled with basic tools. The stairway system has an affordable and portable design that provides a safe avenue for people whom need to access any geomembrane lined basin with a slope. The Quick-Stairs has a dual purpose for geomemembrane covered areas. It serves as fall protection and also as an emergency egress safety system. It gives an adult or child a recognizable and easy way to climb out of a basin. The stairway makes geomembrane lined basins user friendly, even with smooth soled shoes.

Quick-Stairs protects geomembrane liners and covers from damage caused by foot traffic and the requirement to bring in specialized equipment to make the repairs. The stair design incorporate a rubberized belting is a non-slip material that also gives the adjustable steps an area to attach to. The steps can be adjusted from 0-50 degrees which accommodates most lined ponds. The steps can be provided with hand rails for added safety and security.

Quick-Stairs could be used by a wide range of clients and industries that use geomembrane lining such as mining, municipal wastewater treatment plants, industrial wastewater treatment plants, petrochemical plants, tank farms with secondary containment and any recreational client with accessible body's of water such as golf courses. Construction companies have purchased the stairway system because Quick-stairs can be moved around the job site or to other locations.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Even though the product is "not a geosynthetic product", it serves the geosynthetic industry. There is a need for fall protection and safe access in the geosynthetic industry by clients using geomembrane for pond liners and covers. IEC makes our living by installing liners and covers and knows that everyone whom has ever worked in the field with HDPE, LLDPE, XR-5, PP, EPDM, CSPE, PVC knows the danger and frequency of falls and the real need for fall protection.

This stairway system, is an affordable, portable and durable product. There is no product like it that we know of in the world. It is a niche' product that meets the need of the geosynthetic industry very well. Unfortunately, is is only known by very few people.
