Please describe the project specifications

The owners of a local drive-thru coffee business called us requesting shade over their order lanes. During the day, employees approach car windows to take orders, but in our unforgiving desert environment, this wasn’t the safest working environment. They wanted to create a comfortable experience for patrons waiting for their coffee while giving their employees a better protection from direct sun and heat. What resulted was three large shade panels supported by 8 columns and cantilevered framing.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Restrictions from the municipality guided the final design concept, ultimately restricting footing locations, ultimate size of the structure, and overall height of the structure. Footing installation was restricted on the south side due to building setbacks, so a unique framed cantilevered structure was designed to pull the structure as far south as it could be positions for the best quality of shade. A combination of both tensioned anchor points and lace-on methods were utilized to install the three large shade panels and three vertical components. Signature colors were selected for fabric and steel to blend in with the coverall look and appeal of the coffee giant. An aesthetically pleasing look and ample coverage was achieved for both the business and patrons. The client was impressed with our performance and has continued our working relationship by engaging us for more location installs.
