Please describe the project specifications

This project involved us collaborating with a builder to meet the needs of his exacting overseas based client. The client was looking to enclose the deck area of his heritage villa whilst retaining all the period architectural features.
Omni Guide Screens from Shade Elements were chosen to provide a functional and sleek looking system that does not detract from the architectural features of the house. The wire guides all but disappear from a distance but provide support to guide the operation of the screens without the need to alter or add to the carved upright pillars.
In total eight screens where installed providing the client with a large outdoor room like space to enjoy in all weather conditions.

What is unique or complex about the project?

This project required some deft and clever building work by our installation team to enable the brackets to be installed while maintaining the architectural features of the deck. It required some carefully chiseling out of the wood work. We also had to play around with the fittings on the wire guides system and make some modifications to them to enable them to be installed so the screens would operate correctly.
Each screen opening area was of a different size with almost nothing square so the installation of a "square" product was a challenge.

We worked with the client to get the least visually obtrusive screens and to this end actually changed the bottom bars from the original white matching the woodwork, to black matching the mesh. When the screens are wound up, this has the effect of the bottom bar disappearing.

Working with a mainly overseas based client through an intermediary required clear and concise communication, and the use of interim photographs to illustrate exactly what we were discussing and proposed alterations.
