Please describe the project specifications

These 8 sided low pitch in-ground umbrellas were inspired by and designed to look like the tiny cocktail umbrellas in exotic drinks. After much collaboration with the landscape architect, the architect and the owner, we finalized the overall design and then designed and recessed dimmable LED light strips into the umbrella arms. We provided dimmable down spot lights for each umbrella as well. Multiple sizes of umbrellas added to a playful environment.


What is unique or complex about the project?

This was collaborative design with both the landscape architect, architect and owner. Ultimately we produced 8-sided tension fabric umbrella structures featuring recessed dimmable LED light strips in the arms of these umbrellas. We customized these, including various heights, for the design of the site and engineered them for high wind loads. These are unique fabric structures and quite different from more traditional tension umbrellas. Customers of this retail center sit under and enjoy the shade provided by these umbrellas every day.
