Please describe the project specifications

The job was to supply and install a retractable sun shade into a three sided outdoor area within a recently built home, to shade inside the house. The initial construction was to maximise light penetration into the home, the result was too much light and heat and the customer and her family were getting cooked in the main living areas. Our job was to stop this.
The customer wanted us to supply and install an awning to block out the worst of the sun and heat from entering through large window sections around the kitchen and living area. The windows were up to 8m high and the roof lines were on a very steep pitch.

What is unique or complex about the project?

We supplied and installed a retractable sun shade side fixed below the house flashing against the LHS and RHS wall cladding. The walls were not parallel which made the awning installation at the house end very tight. It was fixed down both sides with angle supports, screwed through the cladding into the substrate framing.
The position of the sun shade is 3 floors up (at least 8m high) and we could not see any nail heads or anything to guarantee fixings behind the cladding. Installation required professionally installed scaffold towers.
The electrician did not enjoy hiding the wiring.
The customer was able to enjoy spending time in her kitchen and living areas without cooking herself and has ordered more work from us.
