Please describe the project specifications
The initial unreinforced thickness for the aggregate base was 18 inches to meet structural requirements. The engineer then used the our Flexible Pavement Design software to determine how much RS580i could reduce the thickness of the aggregate and still meet structural requirements. The reinforced thickness using RS580i was 11 inches, saving 7 inches of cut and aggregate for the base. We were able to construct the underground storage with more distance between the storage floor and the water table which helps with permeability.
What is unique or complex about the project?
In order to meet SCDHEC stormwater detention requirements without a detention pond, underground storage was necessary. Storing a portion of the runoff below the roadway and parking area using permeable pavers, aggregate base and geotextile fabric for strength, separation, and permittivity, as a necessity.
