Please describe the project specifications

This project provided shade for the homeowners' south-facing back patio, giving both the family and their dogs a comfortable outdoor space to enjoy despite the intense southern sun exposure. The design consists of two overlapping custom shade sails supported by a combination of three structural steel columns and four custom wall brackets. Site access was restricted, so the majority of the footing excavation was completed by hand dig rather than machine. The wall brackets themselves were custom-engineered to solve two competing requirements: they needed to attach firmly and securely to the home's structure, while keeping the two overlapping sails spaced far enough apart that they wouldn't rub against each other in the wind. The sails use Commercial 95 fabric in Driftwood (upper/west sail) and Gun Metal (lower/east sail), with steel components finished in a Bay Gray textured powder coat to complement the home's exterior.

The completed installation gives the homeowners and their pets full shade coverage over their patio throughout the day, turning a previously sun-exposed space into one they can comfortably use year-round. They loved it so much they've since added a third sail to the structure.
