Please describe the project specifications

Oxbow Public Market approached us looking for shade on their iconic Napa River Walk patio. We started with shade sails, but the thin dimensional end of the patio became problematic. The group then gravitated towards this custom pergola housing an Infinity Canopy on the North and Tuuci Umbrellas to the South. This 8”x8”, free-standing steel pergola was a challenge on many levels. The City of Napa requirements at that time were engineering to 110 mph. That required 4 sets of cables vs. the standard 2. Then we had the critical calculations for the droop and panel width. Infinity Canopy did a superb job. We communicated well and they did a great job on the fabrication. The Hog Island Oyster Company utilizes a large portion of the venue and it's nautical blue and white color combination was continued in the shade. The owners/tenants were very happy with the completed patio design. This popular destination in Downtown Napa California has served millions of visitors from all over the world.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The combination of these 2 shade products ended up being quite spectacular. To our knowledge, this is one of the only slide wire canopies installed with an angled edge. The white pergola frame holding the nautical blue panels blends and compliments the architecture. The pergola's white color further draws in the white umbrellas and brings the patio together. Both the owners and tenants were thrilled with the final shade combination. This is the first “multiple shade types” patio we have completed.
