Please describe the project specifications

Customer was a local music festival who wanted to create a shade canopy to cover one of the several stage areas at the festival

We were required to create something that was functional as well as impressive looking

As the client had limited knowledge of how shades worked, we had several meetings with them and the event design team to arrive at a workable solution as the structure needed to be made so that it could be easily dismantled and erected for future events

A structure was built using stage truss grids with wires suspended to hold centre hubs to attach the shades giving a floating impression of the shade canopy

12 triangular shades were made and attached to the hubs and grid towers to create a canopy of differing levels and twist

Our role was to supply Technical Knowledge at the design stage and manufacture the shades and assist where needed at the shade installation stage.

Engineering, fabrication and erection of the structure was carried out by the customer

To help the client with technical knowledge, design, and manufacture of shades for a temporary shade sail canopy structure for crowd cover at a music festival

What is unique or complex about the project?

Educating the client along with the project designers and engineers as to the parameters of what can be achieved with shade sails

Ensuring there was sufficient strength built into the structure to withstand the stresses involved yet still retain the ability for it to be dismantled and re erected to the same dimensions each time

Brief time frame for manufacture due to festival being held immediately following the festive holiday season and finalizing final manufacture dimensions

The whole job worked seamlessly through all stages and when erected went up as planned first time without any need for last minute alterations. What was achieved was both structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing.

During the process of this install the client also called on us to repair another inflatable stage and inflatable lips for a stage frontage and make an interior lining for the DJ booth, a sign of their trust in the work we were doing. The client was rapt with both the outcome and service provided, and they went on to deliver a successful multi-stage festival which was a first for the local area.”
