Please describe the project specifications
The project comprises 12 freestanding structures, each averaging 102 m² of printed mesh. The dimensions for each structure (wings) vary, ranging from 20-30 meters in length and 8 meters in height, with a rhomboid like geometry. The design concept for this project is inspired by, can you guess? A “dragonfly.” By creating 12 independent structures enveloping the main building, the design achieves a sense of transparency between the outside and the inside of the museum, located in Leon, Guanajuato, without compromising privacy, while also emulating the wings of a dragonfly.
Our team of architects selected white printed mesh panels to match the main building, create a sense of cleanliness, and avoid any visual distractions. One of the main challenges during this project was coordinating with other disciplines. Significant coordination was required for the installation of the panels since earthworks were not completed when we first arrived on site. We had a limited area for the preparation of the panels prior to their installation, having to take extra care to avoid damaging the panels and keeping them clean, as well as ensuring we did not interfere with the work of others.
Given that these 12 wings would be a focal point, our quality for seams had to be beyond excellent, and our cleanliness standards are always exceptionally high. Since the pattern was printed directly onto the membrane, designing and aligning this pattern to fit the necessary curves for the structure was indeed a challenge, but essential for achieving the desired aesthetic. The resilience and meticulous attention to detail of our team were crucial. We managed to complete the installation without any issues, maintaining the highest standards of precision and cleanliness. Today, the museum, serving as the Environmental Education Center, also houses a fine dining restaurant within the "dragonfly".
