Creation of All-Custom Molded Field Cases for a Drone/UAV and it's Controller.

Client:
Lockheed-Martin.

Drone/UAV name:
Indago. (Surveillance / Observation Drone for 1st Responders).

Request:
Replace conventional transport Cases with Custom-shaped featherweight Cases.
(One case for the Drone and one Case for the Hand Controller).
Abrasion-resistant, Lightweight, Rigid, Pack-friendly shapes.


What is unique or complex about the project?

Performance Result:
New Cases were 1/5th of the weight of previous Cases used.
New Cases were more pack-friendly (rounded).
New Cases retained the crush resistance of a transport Case.
New Cases met or exceeded the abrasion resistance of a transport Case
(Thanks to the use of SuperFabric (tm).

Method (1st in the world):
SuperFabric (tm) by Higher Dimension Materials Inc. was used as the
outermost textile in a thermoformable composite invented at GizzMoVest llc.
Additional textile-based ingredients included a high-tensile layer of
pre-consolidated Carbon Fiber which was selectively-sized and
selectively-placed to create a composite which exhibits
aerospace rigidity throughout most of the component,
yet remained sewable to add a perimeter Zipper.

Such molded components can have ALL of the following attributes:
True, High-tensile Carbon Fiber rigidity.
A sewable perimeter.
Living hinges in selective areas.
ALL in ONE, seamless component (NOT separate).

UNIQUENESS:
This is the first time in history (that we know of) when a component
with these properties has been used to produce a production
application (Protective Field Cases for Lockheed-Martin).

Since 2011, we have applied this type of solution for other
customers as well; Such as Teledyne-FLIR.

The weight reduction allows the customer to deploy fewer
personnel into the field because the transport Cases are
|so much lighter than conventional transport Cases.
