Please describe the project specifications
The project was recovering all exterior upholstery on the 2010 X15 Mastercraft that was damaged from a hailstorm. The customer had specific requests that we keep all of the diamond shaped design in 8 of the seat bottoms and captain’s chair seat bottom and that we use a “cooling” material so the cushions would not be so hot to sit on in the sun. We had been asked to completely change the color scheme to gray vinyl with dark red thread instead of black and white like the old cushions.
There were 23 pieces that needed to be completed and most of the foam needed replacement as well. This project required a great deal of detailed sewing to make sure all the diamond designs lined up.
There were two complex parts of the project: We had to research what cooling material to use as we had never used it before. We ended up ordering the Breeze material with permacool comfort technology. The next challenge was sewing all the diamond shapes to make them all line up.
What is unique or complex about the project?
We had to use materials that we had never used before and we had to completely change the color scheme. The diamond design was a challenge but very rewarding when it was done. Customer was so excited when he picked up his boat - he said "holy crap, that looks amazing and done in a timely manner." He was able to get the boat back out on the water to finish the season.
