Please describe the project specifications

Canine Companions for Independence has been a customer since 2018. This marks the third permanent shade sail project we've designed, engineered, and installed for them. This installation was less complex than the previous two: the long, narrow patios on the south and west sides simply needed functional shade for their new, state-of-the-art breeding facility.

At only 15' (±) wide and 20' to 40' long, these patios presented a specific challenge — the owners were concerned about shade but also maintaining adequate air movement to help keep the kennels as sterile as possible. To address this, we designed custom elevated roof brackets that spanned the ribs of the metal roof and kept the long sail edges positioned above the roofline edge. On the opposite wall, we designed/engineered a cantilevered wall bracket to bring that sail edge close to the wall, leaving just a bit of arc space to enhance circulation.

Leaving intentional gaps between the sails and at the ends allowed for continuous airflow. The result was a resounding success and the owners and the puppies could not be happier!
