Please describe the project specifications

The client a homeowner in Steilacoom, Washington, commissioned our organization to design and manufacture a 100% waterproof retractable cover roof system to protect his outdoor living space from both light and heavy rain a problem in his area which is a 1-hour drive from Seattle, Washington.

The retractable pergola transformed his new wooden deck into a unique one so that the area could be used by the homeowner as an outdoor living space for relaxation and entertainment. The main request was to create something different but sophisticated with maximum functionality: create shade, UV, glare, and heat protection while protecting from a continuous typical drizzle.

Large 6063 aluminum structural members were installed for the posts/columns as well as the beams and guides with proprietary horizontal “windbreak bars” to protect from wind up to 60mph. All assembly components used were 316 marine-grade stainless steel to help prevent corrosion.

Essential to the client was to have the retractable roof frame design and most importantly color complement the architecture of his home. Outdoor dining, entertaining and “chilling” as they stated are a daily part of their life, and therefore the client wanted a retractable canopy that would create this type of space for them. They also asked to keep the area below subdued, so that influenced the selection of the fabric.

Also important to the client was to have no rain land on the new wooden deck so we incorporated invisible gutters within the front beam and invisible downspouts within the posts/columns that allow for rain to exit from small holes at the bottom of the posts/columns making this pergola extremely functional.

Maintenance is easy as the fabric and frame only need to be hosed off to remove dust and dirt. The motor is self-lubricating and therefore requires zero maintenance.

Customer satisfaction is the only reason we entered this particular project!!

The result is outdoor living at its best – an area that is both elegant and functional. The client now has the outdoor living space they use for dining, entertaining, and relaxation throughout the year.

The client stated, “we are thrilled with the retractable system provided by your organization. Without a doubt, we made the right choice after obtaining two other local estimates".
