Crossroads Park Splash Pad is a circular cantilevered structure with five (5) cantilevered t-posts, five (5) columns, and five (5) custom shade sails which support an additional center shade sail. This structure provides approximately 2,700 square feet of shade.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The Town of Marana, Arizona proposed significant improvements to the Crossroads at Silverbell District Park in mid-2017, and composed a budget of $750,000 to design and construct a new splash pad. Our design team presented a winning design to the Town of Marana, showcasing a unique splash pad featuring a shade structure that focused on providing shade for parents and guardians seated outside the “splash zone”.

What is unique or complex about the project?

We worked hand in hand with a general contractor, a landscape architect, and a pool/water feature specialist on designing and creating a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for children and adults, alike. As the project became more complex, the budget for the shade structure became smaller. Ultimately, a redesign of the structure to fit the revised budget was necessary.

What were the results of the project?

The Town of Marana celebrated the completion of construction with a grand opening in August, 2018. Local residents enjoy playing in the fountains in the shade on hot summer days. In the evening, the splash pad turns into an intrinsic display of art, featuring a water and light show for all to enjoy.
