Please describe the project specifications

This project was comprised of an installation of 9 overlapping shade sails attaching to 7 pre-existing columns at a private residence in Paradise Valley, Arizona. The sails provide a total of 1,510 square feet of shade.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client requested an array of shade sails to be installed for the purpose of providing shade to an expansive backyard patio, pool, and splash pad area.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Triangular shade sails are notorious for a satisfying aesthetic, but not for providing a large degree of shade. The homeowner specifically requested triangular shade sails, requiring some additional measures of strategy and deliberation to place them effectively – especially when designing around pre-existing columns! Ultimately, a second round of shade sails, which included three larger rectangular panels, was required to achieve satisfactory shade.

What were the results of the project?

With the finished installation of nine bright red shade sails, effective shade coverage was achieved. The necessary overlapping and layering of triangular shade sails resulted in a highly designed aesthetic that proved to be unique to most residential projects.
