Please describe the project specifications

For The Special Event's 'Wizard of Oz' themed Closing Night Celebration in Mardi Gras World's grand hall, we installed a giant 'Spiral Ribbon' to recreate the twister in Kansas, an array of 'Dazzles' to recreate the bright flowered gardens in the land of the Good Witch, and a tunnel of 'Crescendos' to evoke the ominous forest Dorothy and her companions braved en route to Oz.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Event producers for The Special Event’s Closing Night Celebration designed an elaborate “Wizard of Oz” theme. We were asked to help bring this theme to life be evoking events from the fabled story. Using selected pieces from our Ready-made rental inventory, a 'Spiral Ribbon', 'Dazzles', and 'Crescendos', we had just what the large event space and the event's producers needed.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The Special Event's (TSE) showcases are produced by event planners in the host city of the annual trade show and conference. These planners rely on volunteers for much of their set-up labor. The producers of TSE's Closing Night Celebration needed set-décor to help bring their Wizard of Oz themed event to life, but relying on volunteer labor and working with a limited budget and tight time constraints, they needed set pieces that were relatively quick and easy to assemble. Additionally, the space for their event was a large black-box style event space with 60' ceilings. They needed décor that wouldn't disappear in the space.

Our Ready-made fabric structures are all designed with sectional aluminum frames that assemble using pop-button hardware. Our fabric skins affix to these frames in zippered pillowcase style or with a zippered binding tube. All of the pieces we brought, including the large 'Spiral Ribbon', were able to be assembled by volunteer crews under our supervision in four hours.

The large scale of our pieces was also perfect for this high-ceilinged event space. The 'Spiral Ribbon' is 20' across and nearly 20' tall, the large 'Dazzles' are 20' in diameter, and the 'Crescendos' are 14' tall and 22' wide.

What were the results of the project?

The Closing Night Party was a rousing success. The event's producers had never seen our pieces in person, and could not have been more excited with how well they worked for their event. Photos of the "tornado" were all over social media in the days following the event.
