Please describe the project specifications
Large scale public sports tensional system which is about 6,800 m2. The designer introduced the concept of Chrysanthemum which is zhongshan city flower into the skylight. Tensional system combines with PTFE and ETFE two membranes. Pure white color of PTFE and transparent ETFE film make up the big Chrysanthemum and every pure white PTFE panel resembles stands for a chrysanthemum petal. The cheerful variation on four seasons is accompanied by light changes of the theme color of spring, summer, autumn and winter like a blooming chrysanthemum.
What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
Make full use of the roof space and the technical advantages of PTFE and ETFE structure system (to meet the requirements of large span and light weight) to cover the entire commercial roof as a canopy of the sky garden and achieve the perfect combination of business and nature.
What is unique or complex about the project?
Parkway Times Square locates in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province. The entire atrium canopy is divided into a circular main atrium structure and a hat-shaped monolith composed of planar trusses. The circular atrium is composed of an annular truss with a diameter of approximately 70 meters and a cable and a flying column. The steel column supports the steel trusses. As the main bearing system, the membrane canopy is installed on the steel cable.
What were the results of the project?
The project resulted in a signature building of this city and has exceeded the expectations of owner. It is a great example of PTFE and ETFE combination and client is satisfy with it.
