A twin roofed over lapping freestanding structure incorporating a guttering system and interrelated lighting.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client had recently completed the construction of a large building with classrooms and teachers offices. we working with then client in designing a covered curved walkway. After the construction was completed the client requested we do a design that would cover their amphitheatre and to also allow the students be able to move from the buildings to this area whilst being undercover.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Having to design a structure around existing structures, boulders, vegetation beds, irrigation, several levels changes etc required a different way of thinking. We had a 3D scn of the area completed and used the surveyors several times to ensure all footings and posts were set at the required heights. The access to the area required the use of a 100t crane as there was no access to the area. The steel rafters were designed in 3 sections for ease of handling and transport, they were assembled next to the crane and weighed approx 1t and had to the lifted approx 60m. The design required 2 separate roofs, 1 over lapping the existing building, straight edges and rolled rafter off axis. The steel was installed in 1 day. The main canopy was designed to create as much coverage as possible, once again the after is rolled and is off access. The fall of the main structure was so that all water runoff went back to the custom fabricated steel gutter, and custom fabricated down pipes. Both canopies were installed in one day!
