Please describe the project specifications

1 large (165sqm) and 1 small (65sqm) leaf shaped waterproof structures supported on 4 posts each with integrated lighting

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The area is located at the front of the junior school pick up and collection area, the client requested a "statement piece" that offered weather protection from rain and also protection from the harsh Queensland sun.
A water flow analysis was completed to ensure that all run could be collected by the school and recycled and to ensure that the area remained dry even during the harshest of summer storms. No run off as the children enter exit the area.
A full sun/shadow design was completed, this made sure that during the hottest months at the peak usage times of drop off and collection of the school children the area had maximum shade possible

What is unique or complex about the project?

The client requested something out of the ordinary, after several concepts the final design was agreed upon. All posts are on different angles, the canopy frame is off axis and the 2 structures overlapping each other and the existing building. The steel frame had to be assembled off to the side of the site and craned in as one piece using a 55t crane. The canopy is tensioned using extrusion and draw bolts, this meant that the canopy had to be pulled and tweaked into position bit by bit, allowing for the extrusion to fit perfectly and the canopy to be pulled out to its exact work points.

What were the results of the project?

Client was over whelmed with the finished product, it is the "statement piece" that they wanted
