Please describe the project specifications

This is a patio awning that is a 500 square foot custom-designed A-Frame with hip ends. The aluminum frame was powder coated white and covered with a white matte Ferrari material. A structural gutter was designed to divert water. Accessories include fans, heaters and a customized RGB LED lighting system with a dimmer switch.


What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Our client lives along the intracoastal and wanted a structure for outdoor entertaining that also included unique visual options when special festivities in the area occurred, particularly the Fort Lauderdale Boat Parade.


What is unique or complex about the project?

Although slightly complex, this was a fun and unique project to design, manufacture, and install. Because of the client’s special requirements, the frame was designed combining an A-Frame with a Hip End style to ensure it blended three-dimensionally with the roof line. The columns of the frame were also strategically aligned with the patio columns to ensure a clear view whether looking out to the waterway or looking from the waterway back at the home.
Fans and heaters are part of the structure to allow for all-season outdoor entertaining. An aluminum diffuser on the inside of the frame conceals and reflects the LED lighting upward and outward. The LED light system with a dimmer switch can provide soft White or alternating Red, Green, and Blue for a more vivid effect. The structure also has a structural gutter to divert water.


What were the results of the project?

The client can now entertain outdoors in Florida throughout every season. The stylish canopy adds value to the home while providing the “fun visual” at a variety of times, including boats motoring the intracoastal during the Fort Lauderdale Boat Parade!
