Please describe the project specifications

One New Zealand Stadium, also known as Te Kaha Stadium, is a landmark multi-purpose venue in Christchurch, designed to host major sporting events, concerts, and community gatherings within a modern and highly connected environment. As part of the stadium development, we were engaged to design, fabricate, and install two identical large-scale welcome signs that would contribute to the venue’s arrival experience and architectural identity.

The project included two feature signs measuring 18.7m x 6.8m each, constructed using Serge Ferrari Soltis 92 fabric mesh in Tennis Green. The client’s request was for visually striking signage that integrated seamlessly with the stadium structure while maintaining readability, visibility, and an architectural aesthetic consistent with the overall design intent of the venue.

The signage framework was required to interface with pre-designed letter frames, with each letter frame bolting into dedicated sleeves within our support structure. A key aspect of the project was developing a framing solution that could connect back to the angled stadium steel structure at four fixing points, while also achieving the desired viewing angles and visual presence from surrounding approaches to the stadium.

What is unique or complex about the project?

This project stood apart from others completed throughout the year due to both the significance of the venue and the role the signage plays in shaping the public arrival experience. One New Zealand Stadium is more than a sporting venue; it is a major community asset for Christchurch and a destination designed to bring people together through sport, entertainment, and events. Being involved in a project of this scale and public importance was something we were genuinely proud to contribute to.

What made this project particularly unique was the combination of architectural integration, structural coordination, and visual impact required within a relatively focused scope of work. Although the project centred around the welcome signs, the scale of the signage and its prominent positioning within the stadium environment meant every detail had to be carefully considered. The framing system needed to interface precisely with pre-designed letter structures while also connecting back to angled stadium steelwork in a way that achieved the desired visibility, readability, and architectural presentation.

Unlike many traditional signage projects, these structures were designed as permanent architectural features within one of New Zealand’s premier entertainment venues. The use of Serge Ferrari Soltis 92 mesh in Tennis Green also gave the installation a distinctive finish that complemented the stadium aesthetic while maintaining durability and visual clarity at scale.

The project represents the type of work we value most: projects that combine technical problem solving with meaningful public outcomes, and that ultimately become part of how people experience and remember an important community space.
