Please describe the project specifications

Triangular shaped shade sail fabric structure around a hospital playground area. The 9 triangular shaped panels vary in sizes totaling 800 sq. feet of coverage. Fabricated with Commercial Heavy 430 FR in Aquatic Blue and Yellow and attached to 11 steel galvanized posts installed into existing concrete. There was a wooden trellis that was installed in 1986 and it needed to be replaced. The client requested a fabric shade sail design. The shade sail structure is located outside the hospital by the children’s playground. They wanted to shade an area for people to sit and watch the kids play and be sheltered from the sun.

What is unique or complex about the project?

There were existing concrete columns we had to work with in fabricating and installing the shade sails. We had to custom design steel cap sleeves to fit on the top of each post to mechanically fasten the sails in order to pass engineering codes. The hospital is very happy with the new updated colorful look the shade sail structure has added to the outdoor playground area. There are 14 more existing concrete posts that they are considering installing triangle shaped shade sails.
