Please describe the project specifications

The 2018 renovations for the Greater Rochester International Airport in Rochester, New York included a series of nested tensile membrane structure canopies. The new structures are installed at the arrivals and departure areas of the airport. The fabric structures incorporate advanced LED lighting, a security camera system, and a 40,000-gallon rainwater collection system.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The purpose of the tensile membrane structures at the Greater Rochester International Airport is to provide travelers with protection from the elements at the arrivals and departures areas of the airport.

What is unique or complex about the project?

The most challenging part of the Greater Rochester International Airport project was the abbreviated construction schedule. The fast-tracked construction project was built in just 15 months to ensure that it would be substantially complete before the 2018 midterm elections. Additionally, the vaulted curvilinear tube structure was quite complex and required very precise fabrication for the pieces to line up correctly during installation.

What were the results of the project?

The stunning Greater Rochester International Airport entrance canopy project was completed on time and on budget.
