Please describe the project specifications

Exterior shade screen 28’L x 7’H with digitally printed graphics on 9 oz Mesh Vinyl. Fabric is attached to top rail of framework via keder track and sewn reinforcement around edges. Back side framework constructed from custom aluminum and mechanically attached via masonry anchors to existing brick façade. Vertical supports were mechanically attached onsite.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The History Museum requested a branded shade screen to cover 3 large front building windows that face east with direct morning sunlight. They wanted sunlight screened over the lobby area and Library& Research Center plus have graphic branding opportunity for their visitors.

What is unique or complex about the project?

We were not allowed to penetrate the historic concrete columns with a typical anchor system. As an alternative, we designed and fabricated a mechanical expansion fitting, which wedged in between two of the columns. The fitting held the framework in place using only compression of the expansion joint. This method eliminated any need for drilling/ placing any anchors in the concrete and stabilized the screen and framework even in high wind conditions.

What were the results of the project?

We were able to manage the lobby environment and promote their new branding of the Library & Research Center.
