Please describe the project specifications

Designed with a lot of angles, this project is a stationary awning composed of a welded aluminum structure and includes a waterproof retractable section.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

The client had only one request. He wanted a fully enclosed terrace with a retractable section that he could close or open when needed.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Wind, rain, thief's and angles are the four main issues that made this project complex. First, the wall where the awning is attached to has two distinct angles, and each sides are also two different other ones which makes the awning very unconventional. Second, by the client's request, we had to include a retractable section in the stationary awning. Since it is in a very windy area, it was impossible for us to add a simple retractable awning on top of that section. Instead, we voted for a veranda style motorized retractable awning that we installed underneath the main structure. Third, because this retractable section is located under, we had to add an acrylic fabric - 8'' Ferrarri Soltis - in the front, in order to make sure there would be no water accumulation. Therefore, the rain will go through the soltis fabric and fall into a gutter. Finally, to make sure customers would not run away before paying (when the curtains are open), we added a 52' long X 1' high rigid panel all around.

What were the results of the project?

It could be windy or rainy, this restaurant uses his terrace just like if it was a beautiful day. Therefore, it is very profitable!
