Please describe the project specifications

Fabricate custom Aft Enclosure for 92 Viking Yacht. Track to track design with additional track on rail.

What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?

Owner wanted to enclose open area behind Enclosed Flybridge as air conditioning and heat were installed in this area. Client wanted flexibility with enclosure to have completely enclosed or partially enclosed. He also wanted protection to keep small pets and children from falling off bridge when boat was running. Zipper lines, border widths, and overall aesthetics were important to owner.

What is unique or complex about the project?

Typically owners of Enclosed Flybridge yachts do not install enclosures in the open area Aft of the bridge. This owner however wanted the versatility to use this area with the convenience typical of an open bridge. Strataglass was used as crew wanted to able to remove panels and stow in boat. Rigid glass would not have been practical for this application. Enclosure was split on horizontal Aft rail to allow top panels to be removed while leaving bottom panels in place. This was accomplished by installing concave Costa Track on rail. The bottom panels slide into track and had zippers installed on top edge to receive zippers on adjoining top panels. Costa Track and zippers were installed on all sides of enclosure to allow easy removal and to keep enclosure airtight.

What were the results of the project?

Owner and crew were excited with the versatility the Enclosure provided. Crew was pleased with the scratch resistance of the Strataglass when removing panels. Client liked the ability to remove top panels while leaving bottom panels in place. All this was accomplished while still keeping overall clean aesthetics.
